Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has withdrawn a death warrant for William Lee Thompson, 74, who was found guilty of murder in Miami-Dade County. It is the first time DeSantis has cancelled an execution. A second execution was still scheduled for Tuesday.
The move came days after a botched lethal injection involving Christa Pike raised fresh scrutiny over Florida's capital punishment procedures. The governor provided no statement for pulling the warrant for Thompson in particular.
